EU citizens who arrived the in on or before 31 December 2020 are advised to apply now to secure their rights in UK law as there are less than 6 months left before the EU Settlement Scheme’s application deadline of 30 June 2021.
The EU Settlement Scheme is designed to offer EU, EEA and Swiss Citizens (and their family members living in the UK before the end of the transition period) the opportunity to protect their UK residency after the transition period ended on 31 December 2020.
There has already been close to 5 million applications for this scheme according to official statistics.
Kevin Foster, the Minister for Future Borders and Immigration commented:
“Reaching almost 4.9 million applications to the hugely successful EU Settlement Scheme is terrific news. There is less than six months before the 30 June 2021 deadline and I would encourage all those eligible to apply now to secure their rights under UK law.”
There is a dedicated Home Office team of over 1,500 people working on the EU Settlement Scheme, with support available via both email and phone seven days a week.
The Home Office has spent over £4 million on marketing campaigns encouraging EU citizens in the UK to apply.
If you hold a biometric passport it is now possible to apply from the comfort of your home using the EU Exit: ID Document Check app. Holders of non-biometric passports will need to attend an ID checking appointment before submitting their applications online.
